Our founder, Gordy Kopke, has always been a huge proponent of renewable and green energy since he and a best friend started a wind generation company in the 1970's. Sadly, in the early 1980's, the presidential administration at the time ended all federal subsidies for wind, solar, and other burgeoning green-power industries, setting us as a nation back from the rest of the world by a few decades.
Fast-forward to the new millennium, and we now are able to utilize both solar and geothermal energy to help offset our yearly energy costs and help reduce our carbon footprint!
As indicated by the data from just one of our four solar systems, we've been able to help substantially reduce the amount of CO2 released into our ecosystem by using fewer fossil fuels. This has not only benefited our community, but has also allowed us to use the money we've saved on energy costs to improve nearly every imaginable aspect of what we do. We use beneficial insects to help combat harmful pests that can wreak havoc in a greenhouse or garden. This helps us reduce the use of many chemicals and sprays that smell bad, leave icky residue on leaves and flowers, and aren't very healthy for people and pets. Our professional growing and retail stocking team nurtures every seed, cutting, rhizome and bulb until they are ready for the spring, retail season. They get dirty, wet from freshly watered plants, and are tired at the end of a gratifying day. Once the retail season starts, they stay in shape moving production stock from our greenhouses to our on-site retail areas. They have heartfelt pride in their craft and abundant interest in helping nature produce some of the most beautiful things on earth. They learn a lot and some often get a pretty nice tan by the end of the season! They also love doing this a lot or they’d likely be doing something else. Does this sound like you?
